With 2018 behind us, the board recently reported their gaming win statistics for the past year which we will break down below. This data should assist us in identifying where we can find the loosest slots in las vegas!

We will be looking at all “non-restricted” locations (essentially the big casinos) and their data from the past year (jan 1, 2018 – dec 31, 2018).

The reporting we’re looking at doesn’t drill down to the individual casino level, rather, groupings of casinos by geography. We’ll help you identify the casinos in each reporting zone that have machines featuring a lower casino win percentage (or hold) so you can play where your money will last.

As a matter of housekeeping, casino slot “win percentage” is defined as the % of the total amount wagered by the player that the casino held as profit. For instance, a 7% casino win percentage means the casino, on average, kept 7 cents of every dollar bet on slot machines.

Example: A player put $10 into a slot machine and made his money last for a bit playing a total of $100 in spins before losing it all. The total amount wagered by the player was $100 and the casino won, or held, $10 resulting in a 10% casino win rate.

Was there a specific denomination of slot that rewarded players more regularly in 2018? It won’t likely surprise you that higher denominations are looser than smaller.

Megabucks were by far the tightest slots in vegas at an astounding 13.12% casino win percentage. Penny slots, the most popular denomination with gamblers, were not overly generous at a 10% casino win rate.

Rise of online gambling boosts number of NJ jackpot winners nearly 60% in 2019

As the new jersey online casino industry continues to grow, so have the number of overall jackpot winners.

According to figures released thursday by the state division of gaming enforcement, there were 611 jackpots — defined as wins of $50,000 or more — at brick-and-mortar atlantic city casinos and NJ online casinos in 2019. That’s up from 384 such winners in 2018.

The total money won by jackpot winners also soared, from $39.9 million in 2018 to $54.7 million this year.

Million-dollar spin

The one edge for 2018 over 2019 is that there were two new insta-millionaires that year compared to only one last year: a “william from new jersey” won $1.08 mm playing a wheel of fortune $1 slot machine at golden nugget in atlantic city on july 27. That’s not quite half of the nearly $2.5 mm won by a woman playing a wheel of fortune double sapphire gold spin game for $10 in september 2018.

Four other prizes exceeded a half-million in 2019, including a nov. 18 jackpot for $804.7k at harrah’s on wheel of fortune with just a $1 slot play. A lucky patron at resorts on aug. 8 turned $1 into a $753.7k jackpot playing an elvis slot machine.

The top two prizes won online for the year were the $667.8k won at borgata online casino on a lotusland game on march 3, and a $612.5k payout on wonderland on sept. 15 at virgin online casino.

Seven of the top 10 jackpot winners cashed in online, with four of them coming on the popular divine fortune machines — on four different online sites.

The next tier of winners

Wins of that size, above $280k, are extremely rare — averaging just one a month per nine atlantic city casinos and their affiliated websites. But the DGE lists more than 50 jackpots of at least $150,000 for the year, and about twice as many more for $100,000.

The denominations for each game vary quite a bit, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t the occasional miracle at the lowest levels. On may 29, a hard rock casino patron won $226.2k on a 1-cent play on quartermania ghostbusters.

Those prizes of $150,000 and up were not spread out evenly, with eight in september and seven in april, but only one in october, one in july (the biggest jackpot of the year, ending a 28-day drought of such big winners at any of the casinos or their websites), and just three in january.

The final “big score” of the calendar year came this week, on new year’s eve, as a 10-cent spin on diamond eternity at the borgata in the marina district paid $154.7k.

December proved rather stingy — no doubt in part due to decreased offseason visitation — with just $3.4 mm of the $54.7 mm in jackpot payouts for 2019 coming in that month.

Jackpot winner at MGM casino denied winnings due to typo

Slots player cynthia obie was ecstatic when she hit the jackpot at the MGM national harbour casino in prince george’s county, maryland. The win was worth several thousand dollars, but the casino refused to pay out.

In an interview with the local fox news station, obie spoke about her excitement with the win, as she needed the cash, but did not want to disclose exactly how much the jackpot was worth. She said she was an occasional casino goer and had been there that night with one of her friends on a night out.

An unfortunate sequence of events

As per the rules and regulations for casinos cashing out winnings, the staff at the casino took down info from the woman’s ID and some other key pieces of information. However, they mistakenly recorded an incorrect social security number, accidentally getting one of the digits wrong.

The person who subsequently came up on the casino’s system was an individual who had a large debt in the state. The debt was partly unpaid child support and partly monies owed to the government of maryland.

The casino therefore refused to pay out any winnings to obie. Obie began pleading with the staff, pointing out that she had never had to pay child support and knew it must be a misunderstanding.

By the time the casino discovered the error with the social security number, it was too late for obie.

MGM has said its employees were following maryland law and that the issue was no longer in their hands. The only thing the casino did to offer compensation was to give obie free play chips worth $200. It also gave her some vouchers for drinks on the night of the incident.

Obie now plans to contact the gaming control agency to discuss the incident.

What happens next?

When obie left the casino without her money, she was told to get in touch with the human services agency in maryland to clear up the misunderstanding. The HSA is the body that looks after child support issues.

However, after paying a visit to their offices, obie had made no progress on the issue. Her main gripe still lies with the casino itself.

She told the casino: “frustrated, but now I’m at the point this is insane. You guys are a billion dollar corporation, you do the research. I won fair and square. I just want my money.”

MGM told fox 5: “we are aware of this unfortunate error and have taken the necessary steps to assist ms. Obie in rectifying this issue. Due to MLGCA rules and maryland state law, we cannot provide an additional payout for this jackpot.

“however, if she presents the proper identification credentials to the maryland gaming commission, they will provide her with the appropriate payout. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused ms. Obie.”

The incident has triggered some community backlash for the casino. Some locals say the fault lies with the MGM national harbor casino, and nobody else, as it was casino staff who wrote down the incorrect social security number that led to obie not receiving her winnings.
