GTA online players have been left stumped by a new problem that is denying them the chance to win big money at the newly opened diamond casino.
After years of waiting, GTA V players were finally able to walk through the doors of the in-game casino after rockstar launched the diamond casino and resort on july 23.
Players have already set about creating chaos in the surrounding area, grabbing previously unclaimable vehicles, and even taking as many spins as they wish on the lucky spin wheel. However, some fans aren’t even able to do that. They might be able to fling open the doors of the casino, but they aren’t able to spend their hard-earned money on a night of slot machines and poker.
Members of the GTA online subreddit raised the issue on august 1, noting that they are greeted with a message that denies them from spending money in the casino.
Despite being able to earn the daily free chips, have a spin on the lucky wheel, and watch their friends plunge themselves into debt, some fans in the US, UK, canada, germany, sweden, and the netherlands receive a "this feature is not available now. Please come back later,” in-game note.
Some countries are outright denied access to casino features due to anti-gambling laws in their area, but those players are welcomed with a "this feature is not available to you,” message - which is different from the wider error.
Of course, many fans have sought out help from rockstar themselves, and the developers have been swarmed with requests for a fix, but have yet to issue a response.
“numerous tickets have been submitted to R*, but as of my investigation, I haven't seen any credible information of a response from them,” posted redditor ohchimpanzeethat. “R* support on twitter is not responding to ANY of the questions posted.”
Players have resorted to their own attempts at fixing the issue - with the classic restarting of the game, joining a new multiplayer session, and even clearing their cache.
However, these have not fixed the problem and it has, instead, become a waiting game as some fans have noted that they’ve had to sit tight for up to a week before the issue resolved itself.
With a new content updated expected on thursday, august 8, it remains to be seen if rockstar has a patch to roll out that will solve the problem.
Until then, players will be left scratching their heads and wondering why they are unable to spend their in-game cash.

It's a bitter pill to swallow for those that were eagerly anticipating the long awaited GTA online casino update. Entering the casino, buying a penthouse, playing missions and everything else that the new update has to offer is fine, yet it's specifically playing casino games that some players are unable to do.
Despite using GTA dollars and not real money - which we'll come onto in a minute - some governments still consider it gambling. Whether they are right or wrong doesn't matter as rockstar are always going to comply with a countries' laws.
Is it really gambling though?
That's a tricky question but in the eyes of the law, yes. GTA money, or dollars, can be directly purchased using real money and not just earned online.
This is where it becomes somewhat of a gray area as although the money can't be converted back into real currency it does have real monetary value. As a result, it can be interpreted as gambling, albeit loosely.
Rockstar themselves may not agree with their definition of gambling but are likely taking the precautionary option of banning those countries so it can't come back on them. As yet, the developers haven't commented on the issue.

The above list of countries is not confirmed but if you are receiving the message “this feature is not available for you" when attempting to play casino game, then your country has likely banned you from taking part.
It should be noted there are some reports of players receiving this message when in a country where gambling is legal, though.

The most recent grand theft auto online update added a large new casino into the game, allowing players to buy chips, gamble and win big or lose everything. This casino has been teased in GTA online for years, and many players were excited to jump online and finally play some blackjack with all the GTA dollars they’ve earned over the years. When some of those players arrived at the casino they discovered most of it was inaccessible due to gambling laws in their countries.
Players in iceland, iran, peru, and vietnam, among other countries, say they can’t access a lot of the casino, reporting that they could enter the building, interact with other players and buy a penthouse but could not virtually gamble. When they try to, an error message appears on screen: “this feature is not available for you.”
GTA online’s casino functions like a real casino in many ways. Players use in-game money to buy chips, then use those chips to gamble at slot machines and table games. They can also bet on horse races. While players can’t cash out their winnings into real-world money, it seems the online casino is too close to the real thing for some governments.
For many players who have been waiting for years for the casino to finally open, t his is extremely frustrating . And as pointed out by some players, there are folks who are running into this message even though, if the accounts are accurate, they live in countries that allow online gambling. But gambling laws and legal restrictions are messy and complex. Another issue is the fact that these gambling mini-games exist in a video game, which means they might face different restrictions and regulations than traditional gambling. There is also the possibility that rockstar is just being overly cautious in countries that have stricter gambling laws.
We reached out to rockstar about all of this but have not heard back yet.
On the GTA online subreddit, players have put together a partial list of countries where the casino’s games and card tables are blocked.
Earlier this year red dead online ran into similar issues . After rockstar added poker to the game, players in argentina and other countries discovered they weren’t allowed to play poker online with other players. Rockstar pointed players toward this support page . The page states that some features are not available to some players for various reasons, including “regional restrictions.”
Some fans have decided to use vpns to bypass their countries laws and rockstar’s bans. But this could be illegal in some locations and could lead to your account being banned if caught, so be careful.
Unlike the red dead online poker ban, which only affected one small part of the update, this gambling and betting ban in GTA online locks away a large section of the new update, effectively making the casino an empty shell and a waste of space for many players. Players can still buy a penthouse and gain access to the new missions added in the last update, but these penthouses can’t be fully upgraded to include private blackjack tables or slot machines, due to the regional restrictions.

Not all GTA online players are able to enjoy gambling in diamond casino.
GTA online’s diamond casino finally opened its doors yesterday, but not all players have been able to access its gambling content.
According to a rather large reddit thread, the lucky wheel, card games, and other “gambling” content isn’t accessible due to their country’s gambling laws.
Residents from portugal, argentina, czech republic, south africa, united arab emirates, jordan, and many others are unable to access the casino games.
Some players are reporting limited availability, while others can’t play any of the mini-games.
Gambling law vary by country, and even in some states. There are countries which outlaw gambling outright while some have banned land-based gambling (casino boats excluded). In some countries online gambling is banned, while others only allow horse racing, government lottery, and sports betting.
Looking over the rockstar support page, it notes that certain features may not be available to players due to “regional restrictions,” and that seems to be the case for many countries on the reddit list.
Many players are suggesting using a VPN to access the content on PC, but according to the game’s license conditions, using a VPN could be a volition of the terms of service and EULA according to line I. Many still use a VPN when playing the game, so if you decide to try it yourself, do so at your own risk. Some countries have also banned the use of VPN, so we don’t recommend it.

The recent update to grand theft auto V, which brought an online casino into the game, is not allowing players from a lot of countries to gamble.
The update has been long anticipated by the player base. Many of them were left disappointed by the fact that they could not access it because of gambling laws in their respective nations.
At the grand theft auto V casino, you can play poker, blackjack, and slot machines as well as bet on virtual horse races. But players from the following countries cannot access this online casino at the moment:
Players can enter the casino building regardless of where they are accessing the game from. They can interact with others in the facility and even purchase one of the casino’s in-game penthouses.
However, if they try to gamble with the virtual GTA money, they will be met with an error message saying “this feature is not available for you”.

GTA 5 online casino update is finally launching, with the release date for the highly anticipated grand theft auto DLC fast approaching.
Earlier this week rockstar games confirmed the release date for the GTA casino update and outlined what will be included in it.
The GTA 5 online casino update will be out on the PS4, xbox one and pcs on tuesday july 23 and it will bring with it the new diamond casino & resort.
The new GTA location features a casino where grand theft auto fans can play poker, blackjack, hit the slot machines or try out virtual horse racing.
The diamond casino & resort will also feature luxury penthouses, including a master penthouse with a roof terrace and infinity pool.
Outlining the update in a blog post, rockstar games said: “the massive construction project on the corner of vinewood park drive and mirror park boulevard is nearing completion, radically changing the skyline of los santos forever.
“when the brand-new diamond casino & resort opens its doors, one and all are welcome inside to play, or just to stay in the most luxurious residence in the entire state.
“more than just a place to let go of your inhibitions and your sense of the passage of time, the diamond is the one-stop destination for quality entertainment, high-end living and a range of experiences you won’t find anywhere else.”

How to unlock GTA online's secret casino mission
If you want to see everything you can see here in GTA online, you're going to need to drink, and you're going to need to drink a lot. Recently, players have discovered a secret mission in the game's new diamond casino and resort update that revolves around a familiar video game trope: getting blackout drunk. It's not the most straightforward thing in the world, and there seems to be some serious RNG involved. But there's a secret mission available for anyone that's willing to raise their chins and get loaded.
To unlock this secret mission, all you need to do is go to either the public bar in the casino or the private one in your penthouse. Order a shot macbeth whiskey and black out. Wake up somewhere else, grab another shot, and black out again. Do it enough times and you'll eventually wind up inside of the secret mission. You can see a video of how the whole thing goes down here. It's a pretty straightforward affair, but it's the secret part of things that's so enticing.
There appears to be a significant amount of RNG involved, and some players report taking a giant number of shots without ever waking up inside the mission. But it definitely exists, so if this is important to you there's really only one thing to do: keep drinking. If only life were that simple.
It's not the first time GTA online has pulled this trick: drinking the same whiskey is also tied to blacking out and waking up with a unique shirt.
The whole idea is a fun take on some pretty standard player behavior. Basically, as soon as video games started having bars at which you could order drinks, players responded in the only way they knew how: ordering a ton of drinks and seeing what happens. That's sort of my baseline behavior in a lot of games, after all. If you give me a repeatable action, I'm probably going to repeat it until the game either starts recycling canned responses or something weird happens. GTA online has clearly chosen the "something weird" approach.
Red dead redemption 2 also had a liquor-focused mission, though that one was part of the main story and not exactly a secret. Maybe I can go take a million shots in red dead online and see if something happens.

GTA online's new casino update is inaccessible to more than 50 countries
Local gambling laws are preventing many international players from hitting the slots.
Grand theft auto online's diamond casino update finally went live yesterday, but players from various countries are discovering the update isn't available to them due to local gambling laws. Because the casino lets you spend real money to buy in-game cash to spend at the casino, rockstar games has presumably restricted these features to countries where online gambling laws are less strict.
"I launched [the game] and headed straight for the new building, and wanted to buy myself some chips for the games," wrote one redditor. But after trying to complete the transaction, they received an error saying their account wasn't allowed to complete the purchase. "after contacting support I received a quick reply that because of my region I cannot enjoy the gambling related content in the new DLC."
More GTA 5 and GTA online
That redditor isn't alone. Others quickly noticed features related to the update were inaccessible and started making a list of every country where the casino isn't available. It currently spans over 50 countries, including some obvious entries like north korea and china (where GTA5 is only available because of a loophole). But in the comments, users from countries like portugal and argentina are expressing their frustration, while others are questioning why this update would be banned in so many countries when lootboxes—which is effectively the same thing—are allowed.
The good news is that others have discovered that a VPN can be a temporary work around—at the risk of being banned by rockstar if they decide they don't like players doing that sort of thing.
Still, considering how ubiquitous lootboxes are in most every multiplayer game these days, that GTA online's new update would be restricted in so many countries is disappointing.
"my VPN isn't good enough for gaming so I'm left to stare at everyone playing the new content and enjoying this update which I was personally hyped towards," wrote one redditor. "it sucks to be left out for this god damn reason."
We've reached out to rockstar for more clarity about what's happening and will update this story if we hear back.

The diamond casino & resort opened in GTA online today, bringing new cooperative story missions and new ways to gamble away your ill-gotten gains. It’s a social space along similar lines to the nightclubs, only dealing cards rather than pulling shapes. If you live in certain countries, mind, you’ll be blocked from playing the casino games, presumably because of gambling laws. The casino also sells fancy penthouse apartments we can decorate more than other homes, slapping up pictures and slamming down sculptures.
The new casino officially opened this morning, with the owners offering big dreams of a high-rolling life buuut struggling somewhat with a takeover attempt that’s growing increasingly hostile. In we come, to settle that with old-fashioned murder across a wee chain of new story missions. The ones I’ve seen are fairly standard GTA missions with the driving and the shooting and that, though I’m pretty sure one of the new characters is voiced by chris parnell (of archer, SNL, 30 rock, and rick & morty fame) so that’s nice.
As for gambling, the diamond casino has a decent spread of games. It has multiplayer games of blackjack, poker, roulette, and virtual horse betting, loads of slot machines, and a big ol’ lucky wheel. We get to spin that wheel once for free every day, maybe winning cash, casino chips, clothing, experience points, or even the fancy car sitting in the middle of the casino, which changes every week. If you live in the right country.
Many players are finding they’re blocked from doing any gambling, and it seems to be blanket bans on certain countries. Presumably that’s to do with gambling laws. Remember players can buy in-game cash for real money through shark cards, so it can be gambling with real money to get things you want, even if you can’t cash back out to real money. The list of countries blocked in GTA’s casino isn’t confirmed, but redditfolk have some guesses. Apparently using a VPN can bypass the block.
On top of all this, literally, is the new customisable penthouse suite. It’s some real flashy digs, the grooviest home space yet to hang out and plot with pals. You’re looking at a cool $1.5 million for the basic apartment, then even more for optional extras including a social room with playable arcade machines, a private cinema, garage space, and paintings and sculptures to decorate the joint. Decoration is fairly neat, with dozens of spots where we can choose which paintings and sculptures to exhibit. It’s not free-form decoration, but it’s more than the game has given us before. But it doesn’t have enough plants. I need more plants, rockstar. Wall-mounted plants too, yeah?
Warning: while your apartment is a private place, you may find yourself punched in the back of the head if you head on out to the rooftop terrace and spend too long in the infinity pool staring at los angeles.

Disclosure: I have some pals who work at rockstar, because I live in edinburgh and those people are just everywhere. The only group of workers more common in this city are improv troupes during the fringe. At least rockstar folks have never forced fliers into my hands.
