FOOD & BEVERAGES
If you’re travelling aboard the the queen mary II you definitely will not have to worry about any food or drinks. There are so many bars and restaurants spread out across the ship that you’ll struggle to find something you don’t like. These restaurants all offer different dining experiences, with a la carte, buffet, and set menus all available. Depending on the cruise package you selected, you will be entitled to certain meals without needing to pay. Most of the buffets are included in the standard options but for the a la carte menus you may have to pay extra.
The closest restaurant to the casino is on the same floor. The brittania restaurant has two floors, a lower and an upper dining area. The lower area can be accessed from deck 2 if you exit out the back of the casino. There are plenty of tables and they offer a wide selection of a la carte dining options. One floor above the casino you’ll find the rest of the britannia restaurant as well as the queen’s room. This is one of the more sophisticated dining options and the shop with a great selection of foods and wines to choose from.
If you’re looking for something to drink while at the casino you will need to ask one of the staff or you can just walk next door yourself to the golden lion pub. This is a signature bar on all cunard cruises that offers a comfortable environment to drink, eat pub food, and watch some HD TV sporting action. The champagne bar on deck 3 is where you’ll go if you prefer a glass of bubbly, with the largest selection of champagnes and sparkling wines on the ship.

History - construction and ownership
Cunard line is a british-american cruise line brand, operated by carnival UK and owned by carnival corporation (shipowner). Cunard is headquartered in southampton (england UK) and is among world's oldest passenger shipping companies. In 2015, cunard line celebrated its 175th anniversary.
Cunard held the blue riband for the fastest atlantic voyage for most of the next 30 years. Shipboard dining options - food and drinks
All cunard ships have 3 main restaurants offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner: queens grill restaurant is designated for guests staying in queens grill accommodations. Evening dining is anytime between 6.30 pm - 9.00 pm. Princess grill restaurant - for guests staying in princess grill accommodations. Evening dining is anytime between 6.30pm - 9.00pm. Britannia restaurant – for guests staying in britannia balcony, oceanview or inside staterooms. Dining arrangements depend on the class of accommodation passengers have chosen. Most of them prefer the britannia class and dine in the main restaurant. Passengers can upgrade to a ‘junior suite’ and then dine in princess grill, or choose a suite and then dine in the queens’ grill. Thus they are grouped by cunard as the so-called grill passengers who are permitted to the queens’ grill lounge and may also use the private area on deck 11 and its whirlpool. The other public areas are allowed to use by all passengers.
Each stateroom is allocated and most cabins are allocated to britannia restaurant - two-story with 1,300 seats. Princess grill on deck 7 is for the more expensive staterooms- the queen’s grill on the same deck - for the very best ones. Fares include all meals in the allocated restaurant and the afternoon tea served in king’s court or queen’s room. Food is excellent - you may choose different starters, main courses, desserts, being changed every day. Dining optional venues - instead of in allocated restaurants, you can choose to eat in the self-service informal king’s court on deck 7 (with several buffet areas) or in the golden lion pub on deck 2. You may have breakfast or lunch at the king’s court area which is open twenty-four hours a day - it serves as a buffet restaurant. Todd english restaurant on deck 8 serves superb food, call in the morning to reserve a table.
Each cabin has free room service with a simple menu - burgers, pasta, crackers which can be ordered by phone at any time. If you order drinks, they are charged at bar prices.
When you book you may request a sitting. The britannia restaurant has two for dinner - at 6 p.M. And at 8.30 p.M. Princess grill and queens grill do not have sittings - when they are open, you can dine any time you choose. A note for confirmation sitting and table number will be left in your stateroom when you board. Lunch and breakfast do not require allocated tables or sittings.
NOTE: during the ship's major drydock refit in 2016, "winter garden" was replaced with "carinthia lounge". The new lounge offers alternative breakfast, lunchtime options, and premium coffees. Also during the 2016 refurbishment, "todd english" (mediterranean cuisine) was replaced with "the verandah" - contemporary french cuisine restaurant. The buffet-style "kings court" was completely transformed, with the addition of a smokehouse (alternative dining concept).
Passengers staying in suites are offered new menus in refurbished settings by princess grill and queens grill restaurants. Britannia restaurant, golden lion pub, and veuve clicquot champagne bar all boast refreshed menus. Cunard line has created many of the new menus in its development kitchen in southampton.

Transatlantic cruise travel is more formal as a dress code. During the day, passengers definitely tend towards country club casual. At night, even when it isn't a formal-designated evening, passengers dress up anyway. There are 3 dress codes in the main restaurants after 6 pm each evening. RMS queen mary 2 is cunard line's oldest and one of world's most famous ocean liners of all times. Vessel's "queen sisters" and fleetmates are queen elizabeth and queen victoria. As vessel class and design, QM2 is an "ocean liner" designed specifically for regularly scheduled passenger express transatlantic crossings between UK and USA. During cunard line’s 175th anniversary celebrations was announced that QM2 enters 25-day long drydock in 2016 (may 27 to june 21). Ship’s drydock at blohm+voss shipyard (hamburg, germany) resulted in the following deck plan changes:
- The winter garden lounge on lido deck 7 was redesigned and transformed into the new carinthia lounge. The lounge is named after the cunard line’s two carinthia ships – RMS carinthia (1925-1940) and RMS carinthia (1956-2006).
- On deck 8, the ship’s signature restaurant todd english was replaced by “the verandah restaurant”. The new restaurant (available on board both QM2 fleet mates) offers gourmet french regional cuisine (with seasonal influences) plus a fine french wines list. The new specialty dinner is at a surcharge and opens for lunch and dinner only. The verandah grill has its own bar selling pre/post meal drinks.
- 172 suites (all princess and queen grill suite accommodations on the QM2 ship’s upper decks) were comprehensively redesigned to maximize space. Their decoration was also changed, reflecting the cunard line’s history. The changes include new luxury textures in soothing colors and new carpeting (with a rugs-design inspired by the old RMS queen mary liner).
- Extensive development work involving cunard guests and the onboard queen mary 2 galley teams has been undertaken over the last eighteen months in the redesign of this very popular area of the flagship. Enhancements are planned to both the service and culinary offerings in kings court with the refreshed venue featuring new menus, the convenience of pre-set tables and waiter-served drinks.
- The king’s court (self-service buffet restaurant on lido deck 7 midship) was majorly redesigned. Both central-location elevators were removed to create a vast open space. This way, the central buffet stations area became more open, allowing an easygoing flow. The restaurant’s seating was also reconfigured for a less crowded experience, adding the convenience of pre-set tables and waiter-served drinks. New menus were introduced (including a smokehouse alternative), plus pre-set tables and waiter-served beverages. Among the new menu choices are hot/cold meals, light snacks, afternoon treats, alternative cuisine specialties (including asian, indian, italian, tex mex. At the center stage, ship's chefs entertain guests through cooking demonstrations in the evenings.
- (king’s court) the chef’s galley area (that offers for lunch pasta and pizzas) on select evenings additionally offers chef’s table menu. This is a fine wine pairing and food tasting VIP dining event hosted by the ship’s executive chef. The buffet’s new design features modern chandeliers, new artworks (circus-themed), areas with timber flooring, lots of mirrors.
- Both grill restaurants (on lido deck 7) were redesigned and renovated with a new color scheme, furnishings, and flooring. After the 2016 refurbishment, they both have new menus, more 2-seat tables and were reconfigured for more privacy (by increasing the space between tables).
- 15 new single occupancy staterooms were added on deck 2 portside (taking space from the casino) and deck 3L portside (in the place of the images photo gallery).
- The britannia restaurant (dining room on deck 2) was redesigned too. It was renovated with new decor and upgraded with new dining menus and the cunard’s “white star service” standards.
- Updated menus were introduced also at golden lion (pub) and veuve clicquot (wine / champagne bar).
- 30 new balcony staterooms category “britannia club balcony” plus 5 inside staterooms were added on deck 13 (in the deck’s forward part)
- 10 new kennels (for cats and dogs) were added to the existing 12 kennels on deck 12. This is the best amenity for passengers traveling with pets. Cruise ship kennels were the cunard’s signature feature on the line’s former flagship RMS queen elizabeth 2. On the ocean liner QM2, they were first introduced at the duke of windsor’s suggestion.
- On QM2, the kennel area was expanded, an owners lounge and a new pet playground were added. The extended outdoor area is intended for dog walking and features a lamppost (from liverpool) and a fire hydrant (from NYC). In 2016, cunard partnered with barbour (british sportswear brand) to offer smart pet accessories on the QM2 ship (including jackets, collars, leashes).
- On deck 2, two of the grand lobby’s elevators were removed. This made more space for the lobby lounge, which was also redesigned and refurbished with high-back chairs and a new baby grand piano.
- Around 55,200 m2 (594,200 ft2) of new carpets have been laid throughout the ship.
- All new cruise cabins increased the QM2 ship’s capacity from 2620 passengers (max 3151) to 2726 passengers (max 3271).

Launched in 2004, RMS queen mary 2 cruise ship is the oldest and most famous of all cunard liners, with fleet mates MS queen victoria (2007) and MS queen elizabeth (2010). Cunard's newest liner will enter service in 2022.
History - construction and ownership
Cunard line is a british-american cruise line brand, operated by carnival UK and owned by carnival corporation (shipowner). Cunard is headquartered in southampton (england UK) and is among world's oldest passenger shipping companies. In 2015, cunard line celebrated its 175th anniversary.
Cunard held the blue riband for the fastest atlantic voyage for most of the next 30 years. In 1968 cunard line withdrew from year-round service to concentrate on cruising and summer transatlantic sailings for vacationers. The queens were replaced by QE2 (queen elizabeth 2), which was designed for her special dual role. In 1998, carnival corporation acquired cunard. Five years later, queen elizabeth 2 was replaced on her transatlantic runs by QM2 (queen mary 2). Currently, cunard is the only shipping company operating a scheduled passenger service between north america and europe.
The 148,528-ton, 1,300-passenger cruise ship RMS queen mary 2 is the flagship of cunard line and one of the most modern cruise vessels designed nowadays - the biggest ocean liner in the world, built specifically to cross the atlantic ocean. QM2 was created with perfection, from bow to stern, with 14 spacious decks on which to relax and unwind. Gorgeous public areas, lavish dining rooms, ballrooms, theatres, lounges, and you may not believe it but there is even a planetarium onboard. Queen mary 2 boasts a lot of deck space. In order passengers to be well protected when the cruise ship is moving fast (30 knots), invisible windscreens were built.
Stephen payne was queen mary 2 naval architect - a carnival’s designer, who resembled features of some former ocean liners. These aspects include three thick black lines which recall the appearance of the first queen mary. Because queen mary 2 is too large and cannot dock in all ports, the passengers are ferried in tenders to and from the ship. For transporting passengers to shore, tenders pull up to loading stations, which have large hull doors for hydraulically opening outwards and forming a boarding platform.
The vessel changed its flag in 2011 from london UK to hamilton bermuda in order to be able to offer onboard weddings. RMS stands for "royal mail ship" - a gesture to cunard line's history.

Each year the ship offers a “world cruise” sailing roundtrip from southampton and oneway itinerary segments. Most queen mary 2 staterooms are 250-270-sq. Foot balcony rooms. There are a total of 1363 staterooms (of which 175 suites, 784 balcony, 293 inside rooms) in 23 categories. The largest aboard queen mary 2 are the grand duplex suites (2250 ft2). The so-called ‘staterooms’, the cheapest QM2 cabins, include a private bathroom with shower, toilet, sink, comfortable beds, TV, dressing and coffee tables, chair, internet access pay-per-minute, room service menu, electronic safe for valuables. Each cabin has free room service with a simple menu - burgers, pasta, crackers which can be ordered by phone at any time. If you order drinks, they are charged at bar prices.
When you book you may request a sitting. The britannia restaurant has two for dinner - at 6 p.M. And at 8.30 p.M. Princess grill and queens grill do not have sittings - when they are open, you can dine any time you choose. A note for confirmation sitting and table number will be left in your stateroom when you board. Lunch and breakfast do not require allocated tables or sittings.

During cunard line’s 175th anniversary celebrations was announced that QM2 enters 25-day long drydock in 2016 (may 27 to june 21). Ship’s drydock at blohm+voss shipyard (hamburg, germany) resulted in the following deck plan changes:
- The winter garden lounge on lido deck 7 was redesigned and transformed into the new carinthia lounge. The lounge is named after the cunard line’s two carinthia ships – RMS carinthia (1925-1940) and RMS carinthia (1956-2006).
- On deck 8, the ship’s signature restaurant todd english was replaced by “the verandah restaurant”. The new restaurant (available on board both QM2 fleet mates) offers gourmet french regional cuisine (with seasonal influences) plus a fine french wines list. The new specialty dinner is at a surcharge and opens for lunch and dinner only. The verandah grill has its own bar selling pre/post meal drinks.
- 172 suites (all princess and queen grill suite accommodations on the QM2 ship’s upper decks) were comprehensively redesigned to maximize space. Their decoration was also changed, reflecting the cunard line’s history. The changes include new luxury textures in soothing colors and new carpeting (with a rugs-design inspired by the old RMS queen mary liner).

Cunard’s queen mary 2 review
Welcome to my review of the queen mary 2. I really enjoyed this ship the food is delicious and the crew are amazing. The ship was quite accessible for anyone will mobility limitations.
About the queen mary 2
The queen mary 2 owned by cunard first set sail in 2004. She is a luxury transatlantic ocean liner and this is evident in the service that you receive whilst on board. I cannot fault anything to do with the service or the delicious food. My only quibble with this ship is the class segregation on the queen mary 2.В I didnвђ™t like the fact that some areas were closed to non-grill passengers. I understand that they have paid more for their cruise but this did divide the passengers.
I had heard about this from cruising on other ships and people had exaggerated telling me you had to get out of the lifts if a grill passenger gets in, this is not the case. They just have their own restaurant, sitting area on deck and separate cocktail parties. There is a bit of a class system on cunard which I havenвђ™t experienced before and even though it doesnвђ™t bother me being in an inside cabin I donвђ™t like being looked down on because of it and I do feel that this happens with some passengers that are in the grills.

The ship is definitely built for its normal voyage of across the transatlantic as there is very little movement. When sailing and you can hardly tell we are moving we even went through the bay of biscay which is renowned for being very choppy and apart from a few rocky movements during one night I didnвђ™t feel much.
I feel like the ship is upside down compared to other liners as the lobby, bars, and restaurants on are the 2 nd deck and the cheapest cabins are on the 12 th deck and they normally say the more you pay the more you sway as the top decks are generally the most prestigious cabins. I know this isnвђ™t the case on this ship as my cabin is located on the 12 th deck. The grills which are the larger cabins are located on decks 9 and 10.
Decks on queen mary 2
Even though the ship can be busy at meal and show times as they were over 2000 passengers, I always found a quiet spot to sit whether it be in a lounge or out on deck.
My cabin was on deck 12 and I admit I didnвђ™t venture far from here during sunny sea days as I had found a perfect spot out on deck. It was by the stairs going up to deck 13 so had a lot of passing foot passengers but it was a wind trap which mean even when it was blustery I could still sunbathe and not feel the chill it also had sun for the majority of the day.
On deck 12 there is an inside swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers inside and out and a bar so there was no need for us to go anywhere else. However, when walking around the ship I noticed there were plenty of chairs and deck space on the other decks so it wasnвђ™t a problem like on some ships where you have to fight to get a lounger. The sunloungers are free to use and if you like a certain spot and there are no sunloungers there you can easily move one to where you would like to sit. As long as you are not blocking access you can put your chair or sunlounger wherever is suitable for you.
It has the same general rule of all cruise liners to not saving loungers and I think that this was mostly being respected as it wasnвђ™t often you would see a lounger for any length of period with just a towel.

My cabin on the queen mary 2
I visited a few queen mary 2 cabins the inside ones had a similar layout to mine but the queen grill cabins were much bigger and I would love to have been in one of those.
I was in an inside twin cabin number 12045 front ship on the 12 th deck. There are 13 decks and above my cabin was the sundeck. I was worried that I would be woken by moving sun loungers but I never heard anything in fact the cabin is very quiet as it is down a separate corridor off the main corridor so unless people are getting to the 5 cabins are on this corridor then there is no need for anyone to walk down here so no passing people.
My cabin steward was called alex, friendly and efficient as normal on a cruise ship nothing is too much hassle. The cabin was spotless. It is a family cabin so there are two beds that can be added to make it a 4 berth. It would be a tight squeeze if there were 4 adults unless it was only for a short journey but might be ok if it was two adults and 2 kids.
Bathrobe and slippers were supplied along with shampoo, body moisturiser, shower gel, cotton balls and cotton buds, feminine hygiene bags and sick bags. There was a turn down service every night with a godiva chocolate and the next dayвђ™s program being left on the beds.
Toiletries provided in cabin
If the pillows are not right then do mention this to the cabin steward I needed a firmer pillow and I was given a perfect one. The cabin had a safe and plenty of storage space.
I loved that it had tea and coffee making facilities, a TV and a fridge.

Food on the queen mary 2
Kings court
Theв kings court is the self-service restaurant on the queen mary 2 and as usual on any ship it has the feeling of a canteen but the food is excellent.
The choice in this restaurant is extensive and the food is not only excellent quality cooked to perfection it is piping hot. In fact, the plates are also so hot that you must use a serviette to pick them up a few occasions I burnt my fingers as have sensitive hands so you need to be careful.
One of the best things for me was that the cold drinks were available all day. On other ships, I have been on you can only get the drinks either at meal times or on some its only at breakfast time. There was orange, apple, cranberry and still lemonade. A water filter with the option of ice. Herbal and fruit teas, coffee and decaf coffee and hot chocolate. You could also order bar drinks from a menu and the order would be taken from your table with the drinks price beingв added to your account.
When we first got on the ship in dubai it was during a norovirus outbreak so the ship was on lockdown which means they remove as much as possible which you must physically touch yourself and serve you. Even at the drink machines people were serving which did make it a slower service but itвђ™s vital to stop the bugs from spreading.
The counters were covered in cling film and food was being put on your plates by crew I preferred this as it meant I knew people hadnвђ™t been touching what I was about to eat .
Breakfast had hot options such as english bacon, streaky bacon, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, choice of eggs, corn beef hash, kippers, sausages. Lots of bread and pastry options, cereals, smoothies, cheese, and cold meats.
Lunch and dinner varied from day to day normally consisting of a roast meat, potatoes, pies, steaks, chicken, fish, curries so much to name. There was a sushi bar, excellent cheese selections, gluten free, soup, salads, breads, rice. And delicious desserts there was even a whippy ice cream machine that you could have various toppings on.
There was a chefвђ™s galley which had burgers, pizza, pasta, hot dogs, paninis, and chips at lunch times, I didnвђ™t notice if this was available at dinner time too. The pizza is made freshly in their pizza ovens but if they were sat around for some time they were a bit dry so it was best to get a slice when it had just come out of the oven and the lasagne was delicious.
Kings court alternative dining
A section of the kingвђ™s court was closed for alternative dining, I have to admit I never even saw this area but from the daily programme I noticed they had coriander indian cuisine or aztec вђ“ mexican cuisine with a $17.50 cover charge.
Britannia restaurant
First sitting is at 6pm 2 nd 8.30 I was on the first sitting on table 222 which is on the 2 nd floor of the restaurant. The location was perfect we had an 8-table position by a large window. The movement in the restaurant is minimal which is how I like it as I canвђ™t eat if the boat is moving around too much I think this is due to the restaurant is located on deck 2 and 3.
Our table had two couples from the UK who were friends and got on in dubai with us and an australian couple who got on in sydney. We all seemed to get on well, the conversation was flowing and no one seemed to be obnoxious which is always a good sign nothing worse than sitting on a dinner table with people that are not nice, I did however encounter this quite a few times at lunch time if I went to the britannia on one occasion I nearly got up and left.
The service is excellent and even though the food choice seems limited the quality is amazing and I cannot fault it one bit but at breakfast and lunch time it is very slow so donвђ™t go here unless you have a couple of hours to spare. I am not exaggerating as the only time I had breakfast it took over 1.5 hours and I only had scrambled egg and a slice of bacon so I didnвђ™t go to the britannia again for breakfast.
Carinthia lounge
Serves light breakfasts varying from eggs benedict, muesli yoghurt and fruit pots, breakfast burritos and cakes. The dishes are already plated up and itвђ™s a lot more relaxing than the busy kings court. They have speciality teas and coffees but these are chargeable. Light dishes are available all day and tasting plates are served for late snack until 10pm which can be accompanied by a speciality port, sherry, or iberian wine. В there is a collection of 46 different vintage ports, they offer a tasting tour prices starting at $10.95 per person, service charge applies. This is a relaxing place to sit any time of the day to enjoy a snack have a drink or just read a book.
The red lion pub
Seems more like a wine bar than an english pub due to it being long and thin and itвђ™s not as cosy as an english pub would be. Plus, at lunch time when they are serving the pub grub they are playing lift style music on the piano, it would be more authentic if they had a piano playing sing along songs like in the olden days or a modern juke box which people could choose their own music.
The pub has a large selection of ales and other drinks but they are expensive. I drink martini bianco and the price of one glass is more expensive than a litre bottle in the UK. There is a dart board and the bar does get very busy during the lunchtime meal and at night before the 2 nd sitting dinner. At lunchtime, they have fish and chips, cottage pie, chicken tikka masala, beef and guinness suet pudding and a ploughmanвђ™s lunch.
I went for the fish and chips as I had heard how delicious they were and the fish was amazing, it was thick atlantic cod with a crisp non-greasy batter served with slightly minted mushy peas chips and tartar sauce and a slice of lemon. The chips were slightly undercooked for my liking as they were a little hard in the middle but the fish was well worth the wait. It seems that they are cooking the food to order by the table so we arrived at 12.15 and didnвђ™t eat until 1ish but at least you know the food is fresh. В
The verandah french restaurant
The verandah is a specialist french restaurant open for lunch and dinner with a multiple course tasting menu вђ“ I didnвђ™t meet anyone on this 20-day cruise that had been to this restaurant. I never even saw the restaurant as it is on deck 8 and I didnвђ™t need to go there.

Room service
I had room service a couple of times mainly for breakfast. I am not a big fan of breakfast and will tend to skip it if it isn’t put in front of me so ordering breakfast the night before on a port day would ensure I actually ate before getting off the ship. Thereв wereв hot options as well as fruit, cereal, and breads. It always came exactly on the time I had requested it with a smile from the waiter.В В В В В
The room service is free of charge. They had a few different options such as burgers, sandwiches, steak and pasta. There were some options that had an extra charge such as the alcoholic beverages and specialty chocolates and desserts.
Afternoon tea in the queen room
This white gloved afternoon tea service was very special and definitely a nice treat. The food is delicious as is all the food on the ship but to have it whilst listening to some classical music was wonderful. I only did this twice becauseв I just couldn’t fit any more food in most days.

Things to do on board the queen mary 2
There are lots of things to do during the day. I personally loved the sun decks as we had some gorgeous weather during the trip although the ship normally does the atlantic and I spoke to someone that did that journey in november and she never even went on the decks as it was too cold so if I were doing that sort of journey itвђ™s good to know there will be plenty to keep me busy.
Guest lecturers
There were many different guest lecturers during our 20-day cruise. I caught a couple of dr suzannah lipscombe talks and found her very interesting especially the talk about henry viii. A number of the lectures were also repeated daily on the cabin tvs which was useful to catch up later.
I also attended a few in house lectures given by computer expert mitch as they were on blogging and social media which is my main interests at the moment. It was excellent for the beginners in this field and everything he said was informative.

There is a gym that is free to use, and a spa which unfortunately had very expensive treatments even for a cruise ship so I didn’t use. However I was shown around the spa and have written an article on it which you can read here, if you want a treat then it does look lovely.

The films are shown in the illuminations which is set out with theatre style seats on an incline the seats are quite comfortable. It seems that the films are also shown the next day on the film channel on the TV in the cabins.

Library on the queen mary 2
The queen mary 2 claims to have the largest library at sea open 9am to 6pm daily. The books are divided in genre and there are plenty of choice even on sea days when the library is popular I always found something of interest. I like reading murder mystery style books and there was a great selection of these.
There is a large travel reference section, these books cannot be taken out of the library so itвђ™s an excellent resource centre for a travel blogger like me or any traveller who wants to find information about their next destination. The library is busy and I prefer quieter areas to read my books and I could find plenty of these around the ship. There is a also a book store on board if you would prefer to buy and keep your holiday reads.
Night entertainment on the queen mary 2
Royal court theatre
The theatre has two floors and can seat over 1000 passengers. I preferred sitting on the 2nd floor which was on deck 3 as it had tiered seats so I got a better view. I did sit on the stage level a couple of times and unless you are near the front it was a bit harder to get a clear view of the acts on stage. The lighting and sound were excellent in here and the stage digital backdrop made the shows look professional.
There were two night shows at 8.45pm and 10.30pm. I personally found the early show quite late as I prefer to see a show straight after my meal but this cruise is catering for people who want to sit in the lounges listening to music and maybe having a dance before the show. However, the shows I did catch were good for more information on what I saw on this cruise check out entertainment on QM2.
Sometimes a matineeв was on which was a great way to spend the afternoon.
Formal nights on the queen mary 2 cruise ship
There was В 6 formals during my 20-night cruise and apart from the first one which included the captains cocktail party there were nothing special about these nights apart from people having to get dressed up. Even the menus didnвђ™t seem that much different apart from on a couple of occasions when they had lobster or snails. I was slightly disappointed with the formal nights although the dresses the ladiesв were wearing were beautiful.
Music on the QM2
Solo guitarist paul garthwaite, music with vibz, champagne string quartet, harpist lara szabo, pianist andrew cavenidish-grey, pub duo amethyst, pianist graham wellard, the jazz club with mark hodgson trio, 70s music with DJ chris, vocalist clarolyn maier, dixieland jazz. Piano A deux classical concert, classical guitarist michael christian durrants put on and I preferred this so often went to see these shows in the afternoon.
There was a varied mix of entertainment whilst I was on board something for everyone from the cunard singers and dancers to guest acts such as comedians, singers, and circus acts. My favourite shows were ben mills a singer from the UK who reminded me of rod stewart and a jersey boy tribute group.
Kennels on the ship
This is the first ship that I have been on that had kennels. During our trip there were no doggies on board as we were a leg of the world cruise and we went to look at the kennels and it was full of suitcases. But how cool is it that you can take your dog away with you, if I had a pet dog I would love to take it on holiday with me. I even liked the lampposts that the dogs could do their business on.
Tour office
The tour office is open daily from 9am-12pm & 3pm-6pm. They can offer more information about excursions you can book run by cunard but are reluctant to provide any information that is not related to the excursions which is understandable. If you want to see some information I gathered regarding ports please go to my port information page.
The tours on offer seemed very expensive compared to other cruise lines I have used. I am not sure if this is because things are charged in USD and due to the poor exchange range now it seems more expensive than normal but I didnвђ™t do any tours with cunard purely because of the cost factor. Also, its only hearsay as I havenвђ™t experienced any of the tours but the passengers I did speak to were not happy with a lot of the tours again as the price was so high for what they got. (but this is just gossip!!)
I found the tour office helpful when I wanted some information on pass port we had visited they printed it off for me no questions asked, this was my only encounter with the desk.

The staff on reception are so accommodating and friendly. They helped with all my requests and always had a smile on their faces.
The zone
An area for children I didn’t go here as I had no need. There were a few children on board my cruise and they all looked as though they were having fun.
Charity on board the queen mary 2
Queen mary 2 world voyage charity country fayre. During the cruise, there had been requests for donations for the fayre to raise money for 3 charities, race against dementia, royal national lifeboat institution and the westmead childrenвђ™s hospital in sydney. There were a few stalls selling second hand dresses, trousers and shoes, a change to meet some engineers, some game stalls but it was like a glorified jumble sale and I had to get out as people were pushing and shoving to get to a rack of $10 dresses, not my idea of fun.В
Even though it was for some good causes I didnвђ™t like the layout there was no set out route so people were just pushing to get anywhere. There was even a few chairs put at the top of a ramp to say this was for wheelchair access only and when I saw a wheelchair try to get up the people sat on the chair just ignored her and didnвђ™t move so she couldnвђ™t even get to the items.
Internet
The prices of the internet packages were quite expensive if you are a silver member you get 1 hour free internet, a gold member 2 hours free internet but the people I spoke to who purchased the packages said it was very slow and sometimes my cabin mate couldnвђ™t even log on. An example of the costs on the 1 st and 2 nd may only a mid-voyage special was 530 minutes for $167.95 265 minutes for $89.95 135 minutes for $47.95. It states that it is compatible with mobiles, tablet, laptop, and PC on board but thatвђ™s debatable.
Laundry
There were a few laundries on different floors. They are only small the one I used had 4 wasking machines and 4 dryers and a ironing board. As with all ships the laundry is a place to hear all the gossip. But it can also be quite a hostile place there were reports of a very serious argument during my cruise.

Casinos and boats go back a very long way. The paddle steamers that used to meander their way up the mighty mississippi river were later used as entertainment venues and casinos, offering both slots and table games to who stepped aboard.

The sunborn superyacht hotel and casino is permanently docked in the ocean village marina, gibraltar. It boasts breath-taking views over the famous rock, the frightening airport runway, and across the strait towards morocco.
The casino can be accessed via a separate entrance at the back of the boat and boasts 58 state of the art slots machines, three american roulette tables, four card tables (including blackjack) and three live poker tables.
Minimum bets are £0.01 on slots machines, £1 on american roulette and £5 on blackjack, while maximum bets are £50, £100, and £500 respectively. A dedicated poker room is also available, with a regular tournament schedule.

Norwegian escape is based in miami, florida, and takes 4,266 guests on exotic voyages to the bahamas and the caribbean. But if cruising through crystal clear waters and passed white sandy beaches isn’t enough to keep travellers entertained, there are a raft of entertainment options on board.

THE SOPHISTICATED CASINO CRUISE
Cunard evokes memories of the golden era of cruising. Today, its flagship ocean liner, queen mary 2, takes passengers on transatlantic crossings between southampton and new york with all the pomp and circumstance you would expect from such a prestigious name.
Luxury is in the details, from the stunning craftsmanship found in the liner’s suites and staterooms, to its library – the largest at sea with more than 8,000 books. This extends to the boat’s exquisite empire casino, which departs from the glitz and glamour found in other casinos in favour of a more sophisticated environment.
On offer are nine bespoke gaming tables – including roulette, blackjack, three card poker, heads up and texas hold'em – as well as 99 slots machines. Limits for the tables range from $3 to a maximum of $500, while the slots machines range from $0.05 to $5 per spin.

The size matters approach is also to be found in its on-board casino, casino royale. The gaming floor is a whopping 18,000 square feet, and is packed with more than 500 slots machines – including player favourites wheel of fortune and triple diamond – and 27 table games including roulette, caribbean stud poker, blackjack, craps and video poker.
Guests receive a true las vegas casino experience, from the glamorous décor right down to the cocktail service – waiters and waitresses come to players while spinning the reels or winning a hand of blackjack so as not to interrupt their gameplay. I am going to talk about cruising; transatlantic cruising on queen mary 2. If you can spare it, how about 7 days at sea experiencing the true beauty and wonder of crossing the vast atlantic ocean, and what if you could do it in luxury, and if you’re doing it right, for less then the price of a plane ticket and 7 days in a hotel.
Whether making that first time trip to europe or relocating halfway across the world, there are 2 very different ways of getting there; you can fly, or do something some may not even believe is still possible.
Queen mary 2 received a much overdue remastering in 2016 and marks its 12th year in service. This is a complete back-to-the-drawing-board makeover, with new carpets (enough to cover the wembley stadium pitch 10 times), artwork, soft furnishings, light fittings, decorative ironmongery, plus a fair amount of french polishing.
As well as 50 new cabins, including 15 for single occupancy, all existing suites and cabins onboard benefit from new carpets, curtains, cushions, sofas/chairs and – deep breath – the addition of kettles.

Let’s have a look at the room options available to get you started planning your cunard sailing. There are 30 new britannia club staterooms, all with flat-screen tvs, and a new stateroom structure has also been installed on the top deck (13). The average floor area of the new single cabins is 178-183 sq ft. She holds a whopping 2800 passengers and 1250 crew members.

There are various stateroom types. Consider the room layout and your family’s needs.
The rooms offer a generous luggage allowance, they are very comfortable and have lots of space to move around. Oversized pieces can do in the hold, as many relocating persons will have tons of luggage while they await their sea container to arrive.
The balcony is a nice addition but the weather can often be too cold to use more than once or twice during the trip.

Single
As of july 16, 2016, there are now single staterooms for solo travellers, 15 brand-new single cabins — in two sizes, 178 and 183 square feet — on deck 2 and 3 and 62 standard outside cabins — 194 square feet — on decks 5 and 6.
Single cabins include a built-in window seat and either a large armchair with a footstool or a short-length chaise lounge, a small circular table by the window and a large mirror over the desk space.
Because of how new they are, bathrooms in the single cabins are arguably the most impressive of all the non-suite cabin bathrooms onboard.
Inside
The 194-square foot interior cabins, located on decks 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, are sub-categorized into standard inside and atrium view inside cabins, with the 12 atrium view cabins looking into the ship’s grand lobby.
Oceanview
With a cabin sizes of between 180 -201 sq ft. Britannia oceanview staterooms feature a picture window. These staterooms have a king-size bed which may be converted to twins, and bathroom with shower. There is a sitting area with a sofa.
Thoughtful amenities include robes with matching slippers, refrigerator, hairdryer, safe, direct dial phone, nightly turndown service with pillow chocolate, 24-hour room service, an interactive TV system, daily shipboard newspaper, and bon voyage half bottle of sparkling wine.
Some staterooms are equipped with an upper pullman-style bunk bed to accommodate a third guest.
How to score free drinks on a cunard cruise, with a balcony stateroom or a grill suite of course. Before you go for that rare expensive whiskey on board, purchase the cunard drink package. Note that only drinks under $12 are included and the offer doesn’t apply to drinks ordered through room service.
Even so, you’re going to get significant value. Let’s say you order three $12 drinks per day during your seven-night cruise (and don’t worry about the 15 percent automatic gratuity, because the line is covering that, too). That saves you $252, or $290 with gratuity. And hey, no one says you can’t order a few more, either.
Balcony
There are two types of balcony cabins; britannia balcony and britannia club, and there are minimal differences between the two.
With neutral colour tones used in the carpets, walls and furnishings, both feel spacious and light.
Located on decks 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12 and 13, the 248- and 269-square-foot balcony cabins, some of which are sheltered (deck 4, 5 and 6) or with obstructed views (deck 8), make up the largest proportion of the ship’s cabins.
Britannia balcony cabins include a king-size bed, which can be separated into two twins, a nightstand and a lamp on either side, containing one drawer and a shelf below.
Princess grill.
Located on deck 10, the 381-square-foot princess suites are larger and more luxurious than the ship’s balcony cabins. They contain more high-end fixtures, such as the plush nightstand lamps and gray wall padding behind the bed.
Added features include a concierge service, sparkling wine and chocolates in the cabin upon arrival, daily fresh fruit, personalized stationery and an upgraded soft velour robe and slippers. There’s also an atlas provided in the cabin — useful for tracking the ship’s progress the old-fashioned way!
Queens grill.
Located on decks 9, 10 and 11, the 506-square-foot queens grill suites feature a spacious living area, dressing room with walk-in wardrobe and bathroom with separate shower and whirlpool bath.
Extra amenities include 24-hour butler service, concierge service, champagne and chocolates upon embarkation, complimentary in-cabin drinks (including two bottles of wine or spirits of your choice and soft drinks), pre-dinner canapes, daily fresh fruit and a turn-down “surprise” on formal nights.
Regular nightly turn-down service with chocolates is also provided and there are atlas and a selection of books in the cabin’s library. Queens grill passengers also receive priority embarkation, disembarkation, and tender service. All queens grill passengers receive allocated dining in the queens grill.
Queens grill penthouse
Located on decks 9 and 10, the six 758-square-foot penthouse suites feature the same decor style as queen grill suites, with a dining room table and chairs, illy coffee machine (in addition to the kettle), a luxury wedgwood tea set, an L-shaped sofa, two armchairs, a coffee table and luxury thick woolen blankets neatly stacked on an armchair in the living area.

The man in seat sixty-one stated: “from personal experience, I now realise that staggering round a transatlantic liner in a dinner jacket with a martini is the normal, rational, reasonable way to cross the atlantic. Heading for an airport and strapping yourself to a flimsy aluminium tube is an unfortunate and eccentric aberration.”

While the previous voyage passengers exit, the stewards are working like mad to clean and make-up all the cabins for the new passengers, who will be boarding. Some cruise lines allow earlier boarding time, but won’t allow entry into one’s cabin until after lunchtime.
Cunard has all the cabins ready before new passengers are invited to board. This is great because you can go straight to your stateroom and drop off any hand luggage, then off to deck 7 for some lunch.
There isn’t much at the port except the terminal building, a parking lot, and of course a large volume of passenger traffic. Around the brooklyn cruise terminal, you will find that the buildings are industrial. The area around the terminal building isn’t a comfortable, hang-around, kill-some-time environment.

Payment onboard ship
As with many cruises, electronic transactions are the most convenient and often only method of payment on the ship. Your credit card will be placed on file and your room key will serve as a charge card. This way everything is charged to your card, and it will be billed on the night before disembarkation.
